How to prevent your network/systems from Petya ransomware?
Petya uses different types of attack vectors to infect and spread.

  • Install security patch against Windows EternalBlue vulnerability
  • Make sure that your Windows OS is up-to-date.
  • Disable SMB (temporarily).
  • Install a good Antivirus software and make sure it is up-to-date. List of top Antivirus software 2017
  • Enable Windows Firewall
  • Always backup important data
  • Remove administrator privilege from end-user or maintain least privilege for end-users.
  • Disable PowerShell and PsExec
  • Disable unwanted tools and protocols
  • Use behavior monitoring (suspicious) mechanisms.
  • Use secure email gateway and email filtering system.
  • Educate end user: Instruct them not to click links in emails from unknown sender

If your system is already infected, then there is no way to get the decryption key to unlock your files anyway. Disconnect that system from the network, format and reinstall the OS.
