What is FBE Coating?
Fusion Bonded Epoxy Coated Steel is a type of steel that is coated with epoxy resin to provide superior corrosion protection. It can be used in a variety of applications that require strong and durable steel.
Epoxy resin is a polymer made up of two parts, an epoxide and a polyol, which are combined together in an emulsion or solution. This coating is also called “resin” or “epoxy paint”. The advantage of epoxy resin coating over other coatings like paint or rubber is that it has high chemical resistance to acidic and alkaline environments, as well as high resistance to ultraviolet light.

Corrosion of steel
There is a widespread lack of understanding of basic corrosion concepts relating to solid non-uniform electrolytes and steel rebar.
There are two basic types of reaction that cause corrosion in steel. Galvanic and electrolyte corrosion. Both are Electrochemical processes requiring chemical reactions and the flow of electrons.
Corrosion in Concrete
The most common cause of corrosion in concrete is Galvanic cells. This process requires either dissimilar metals in a uniform electrolyte that has an external return current path or one continues metal in the nonuniform solid electrolyte in this case reinforcement
FBE or FBECR Coating Process
The rebar automatically passes through a shot blasting machine removing all traces of mill scale, contaminants, and debris. The cleaned metal now has a deep and angular profile. Prior to the application of the coating, the steel is heated by electric induction to a precise temperature of 230 degrees Celsius, and the powder is then applied by electrostatic powder spray equipment to form a homogeneous and even film over the steel. it is irreversibly set but will remain flexible enough to withstand the on-site forming process weakening of cracking.
This process is controlled in accordance with the internationally recognized American standard ASTM A775M and BS 7295.
