Step 1: Update the Touchpad driver

The driver installed in your computer could be outdated or incompatible with the Windows update you installed.

Open Device Manager (Click the start menu and search Device manager), Select “device manager” from the list.

Scroll down to Mice and other pointing devices, expand it by clicking the arrow, and the touchpad will be listed there, double click it.

Go to the “Driver” tab and then click “Update Driver”. Windows will search for the new driver available on the Windows website. If it is not available then download it manually from the Manufacturer’s website.

You have to find out the version details of the driver installed on your laptop.

Click Start menu – >type “msinfo“-> and select “System Information” from the list

Click and expand the “Input” link located in the left pane

Click “Pointing Device

Now you can see the hardware and driver details in the right pane.

Note down the driver details

Go to the manufacturer’s website and check for the latest driver. Download and install the latest touchpad driver.

Follow the next step, If the issue is not

Step 2: Reinstall the driver

We will try to uninstall and reinstall the touchpad device driver. Make sure you have a mouse connected to your laptop before starting this process.

Open Device manager ->scroll down to Mice and other pointing devices

Double click “Touchpad” -> Go to Driver tab and click Uninstall.

After Uninstall, restart your computer, now Windows will try to reinstall the driver.

Your touchpad should work properly now.

Step 3: Uninstall Recent Windows Update.

Uninstall the recent Windows update and pause the Windows update for 7 days to temporarily resolve this issue until the manufacturer releases the new driver.

How to stop / pause Windows Update temporarily ?

Search “Windows update” from Start -> Select Windows Update from the result-> Click “Pause updates for 7 days

To uninstall recent updates -> Click “View update history” -> Now click “Uninstall updates“.

Uninstall all updates that have been installed just before the touchpad issues started.

Restart the PC.

To fix this issue permanently, you have to wait until the new driver is released or Microsoft fixes this issue.
