Tips to Play Pokémon Go:

Pokémon GO is more than just a game where you catch Pokémon. It’s a game that encourages you to go outside, explore with friends and family, and discover new places. Once you’re ready to make your first Poke friend, follow these steps to start playing Pokémon GO successfully:

Step 1:

Open the app as you would any other and log into your Google account.

Step 2:

Set up your trainer by choosing a name, gender, and appearance. Once you have typed your name, do not click on “choose” until you have confirmed that the name is correct. You cannot edit your name after this step.

Step 3:

You may choose to watch a short tutorial, but it is mostly self-explanatory – hit Next until you see Pikachu (one of the most popular Pokémon) and follow the instructions on the screen to begin catching it. Do note that this will be your only chance to catch Pikachu as a starter Pokémon (he will run away if you skip this step)

Step 4:

Go outside! This is an augmented reality game, which means that you need to move around physically to play it – don’t expect to catch Pokémon by staying indoors or traveling by car/train/bus, etc. Your character on-screen will move in whichever direction you are facing and walking.

Pokémon Go uses your Smartphone’s GPS and clock to detect where and when you are in the game and make Pokémon “appear” around you (on your phone screen) so you can go and catch them. As you move around, different and more types of Pokémon will appear depending on where you are and what time it is. The idea is to encourage you to travel around the real world to catch Pokémon in the game.
