Error Description: A request for a remote update handler could not be completed because no remote process is available. 

Possible Causes of 0x80242000 Error

  2. Low memory/RAM available
  3. Low disk space
  4. Corrupted system files
  5. Firewall/antivirus restricting the updates

A restart might be pending after recent update. Restart the computer follow these steps mentioned below.

1. Network issue

Windows unable to access the Windows Update server on the internet. Check the system have internet and you are able to access Microsoft update websites. If you are facing any issues with internet, then run Network troubleshooter.

2. Low disk space

If you don’t have sufficient disk space, then use “Disk Cleanup” feature to remove unwanted files.

Select file types from “File to delete” option

  • Downloaded Program Files – Tick this option to delete ActiveX controls and Java applets downloaded automatically from the internet when you view certain pages. They are temporarily stored in Downloaded Program Files folder on your hard disk.
  • Temporary Internet Files folder contains webpages stored on your hard disk for quick viewing, Your personalized settings for webpages will be left intact.
  • Windows error reports and feedback diagnostics files are generated from Windows Errors and user feedback
  • DirectX Shader cache – Clean up files created by graphics system which can speed up application load time and improve responsiveness. They will be re-generated as needed.
  • Delivery Optimization Files are files that were previously downloaded to your computer and can be deleted if currently unused by Delivery Optimization service.
  • Downloads – Tick this this to delete all files in your Download folder.
  • Recycle Bin – To remove files you have deleted from your computer. These files are note permanently removed until you empty Recycle Bin.
  • Temporary files– Apps can store temporary information in specific folders. These can be cleaned up manually if the app does not do it automatically.
  • Thumbnails – Windows keeps a copy of all your picture, video and document thumbnails so they can be displayed quickly when you open folder. if you delete these thumbnails, they will be automatically recreated as needed.

Click “OK” button after selecting all required files for deleting. Then system will popup “Are you sure you want to permanently delete these files ?“, click Yes to start the cleanup.

3. Corrupted system files

SFC is a built-in Windows tool to scan the and check the integrity of system files. If any of the system files is corrupted or damaged then SFC will try to fix it by replacing it from the backup copy .

Follow theses steps:

Open Command prompt as administrator. Click Start menu , type “Command” or “CMD.exe“.

Run Command prompt as administrator

Right click “Command prompt” and select “Run as administrator“.

Type “SFC /scannow” and press enter key to start verification.

SFC should return “Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.”, if the systems file are not corrupted. Otherwise you may have to follow these advanced steps mentioned in this article to restore the corrupted system files (Warning: Take all precautions before executing these instruction, take backup your files/data).

4. Firewall/antivirus restricting the updates

Security software like Firewall or Anti Virus might blocking the updates. Temporarily disable it for update to complete.
