where are all the good distros...

This may be a bit of a rant but, I need to get this out and see if I am not the only one that feels like this. I have been using Ubuntu know for many many moons. I started using Ubuntu only, removing windowz completely from my system, around 8.10. I recently "upgraded", IF you really wanna call it that *rolls eyes* to 14.04 and, I'm not a happy camper. ever since 9.04 it seems as though the Ubuntu team has put our more and more "eye candy" focused distros instead of keeping what works and utilizing it in the next upgrade. The first big change that I remember that I did not like was the move to the Unity desktop. As soon as I saw it, I knew that this was only the beginning and, sure enough, things have continued to go down hill from there. Now, in the newest version 14.04 there is no longer any menu bar at all in the main file handler. Even if you install Gnome desktop, it's still not there. I had to go all the way down to LXDE just to get a good old fashioned (File Edit View) Type of menu bar that works with the new 14.04.Is this what we Ubuntu "fans" are in for in the continued future? More bells and whistles and eye candy over good old fashioned useablility and stable builds? If so, I may have to start looking elsewhere for a new distro which I don't want to do but, may not have a choice. May be time to start using Debian only.. Signed, :-s sad and frustrated.. [-(
